Living Australian is proudly supported by Australia Post

Australia Post was proud to be able to support the Living Australian Online Photography Competition by featuring the winning entry on a stamp issue in 2011. Postage stamps are renowned world wide for reflecting a country’s identity and culture, and this competition provides a unique opportunity for Australians to submit their photos for consideration to be featured in this special stamp issue. The competition was the first time that photographs by everyday Australians were used for an official Australia Post stamp.

Since 1997 Australia Post has honoured the achievements of Australians with a special stamp release as part of the Australia Day celebrations. The “Australian Legends Award” marked the first time living Australians were featured on stamps and past recipients of the Award include Sir Donald Bradman, Dawn Fraser, Arthur Boyd, the last Anzacs, Slim Dusty, world-renowned medical scientists, tennis legends Margaret Court and Rod Laver, Dame Joan Sutherland, Collette Dinnigan , Barry Humphries, Bart Cummings, philanthropists Dame Elisabeth Murdoch and Frank Lowy, Hollywood actors Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman, and legendary writers Thomas Keneally and Bryce Courtenay.

Australian stamp issues include the annual Australia Post “Australian Legends Award”, Queen’s Birthday and Christmas issues and a combination of commemorative themes and subjects proposed by collectors and the general public. The selection process begins at least two years before the stamps are issued to allow for detailed research, the development of designs, printing and the stamp production process.

In 2012, Australia Post will once again feature the winning entry in the Living Australian Online Photography Competition on a stamp issue. The stamp will be released within months of being selected.

So Make Your Mark Australia, and show the nation and the world how you are Living Australian in the lead up to Australia Day 2012.
